The big Steve Morison mystery

If we are all to believe the papers and the rumour mill then Steve Morison is set to return to Millwall on a year long loan, posing the question, why? I just don’t understand the thinking behind this, I mean, he did have a poor start with Leeds United but to completely write off a player who came in midway through the season after not playing at all for Norwich last season is crazy in my opinion. Okay, if we have to sell players to get players in then I would rather lose him than Sam Byram or Ross McCormack. But, another reason why this is deal is so strange is that we are loaning him out! If he doesn’t figure in McDermott’s plans then why don’t we sell him?

The rumours are that we are offloading Morison to bring in Noel Hunt, is this just a massive sidestep? He’s certainly no better than a fit Steve Morison. I’m not saying that Morison is brilliant and I’m certainly not defending his lacklustre performances last season but I actually thought he would go onto have a better season this season. With a whole pre season and a full season of games he should have been much more effective.

Keepers

When Neil Warnock signed Paddy Kenny he said he was the best goalkeeper not just in the Championship but in the Premier League too! We all knew at the time that was a ludicrous statement, but did he even show any form to suggest he was amongst even the top 5 in the Championship?

You can’t dent the fact that Kenny is a fantastic shot stopper and over the course of the season he kept us in games with some decent performances but he was extremely inconsistent. But have we actually had a good solid goalkeeper since we were relegated? Andy Lonergan started off excellent for us, I remember the Middlesborough game at Elland Road when we were down to 9 men and he had a fantastic game but after he broke his finger against Doncaster Rovers he came back a shadow of his former self. The other goalkeepers who played in that season were Rachubka (I don’t need to comment on him) and Alex McCarthy. McCarthy, in my opinion is the best all round goalkeeper to play for us since Paul Robinson. He put so much confidence in the team and the fans, you just didn’t feel that he was going to be beaten at all.

The previous season we had Kasper Schmeichel in goal who despite his hissy fits was a very steady goalkeeper, I personally feel it was a mistake getting rid of him but we don’t know the ins and outs over his departure.

I am lucky enough to remember the good days at Elland Road with the title winning team and the O’Leary era being just a brilliant time to be a Leeds United fan but these era’s always had one thing, a good goalkeeper. For me, Nigel Martyn was every bit as good, if not better than David Seaman. It was a travesty that he didn’t win more caps. What I’m trying to point out is that a good goalkeeper will go and win you as many, if not more points than a striker. Two things I want to know from you are:
