Hunt joins McDermott’s army

The worst-kept secret of the Summer has finally been announced today, as Noel Hunt signed a two-year contract at Leeds United to become our third capture.

Hunt was signed by McDermott for £500,000 back in 2008, and ever since McD was appointed Leeds manager we’ve been linked with the Republic
Of Ireland international. He was out of contract at previous club Reading, and claimed once Leeds were interested there was only one option for him. On signing him the boss claimed his “his desire and determination, and never say die attitude” will engage the fans.

I think this is the type of player we we’ve been missing for the last couple of seasons. Hopefully his energy and perseverance will rub on to the other players, and he will also chip in with plenty of goals.

In other news Crystal Palace have been linked with a move for last seasons player of the year, Sam Byram.

The 19 year-old stormed onto the scene last season with a string of great performances either at right-back or right-midfield. He is the one player who I don’t want really want to see leave Elland Road, but could we honestly turn down say £6 million for the lad? That could bring in four or five top quality Championship players if fully invested into the squad.

When asked on an apparent £3 million bid for Byram, McDermott replied with “for which boot”. This gives me faith that he’s not going to be sold, or at least not be sold on the cheap.
